About Me

I am currently the librarian in a Pre-K to 3 elementary school in Vermont. I have been a classroom teacher in grades 1,2, 4, and 5 and have been a librarian for elementary and high school.

There is no greater satisfaction for me than putting the right book in the hands of the right child at just the right time, and nothing more enjoyable than reading a well-crafted book aloud.  I have tremendous respect for the people who write books for children;  it is a difficult and noble undertaking!

Writing (and the teaching of writing) is one of my passions, and blogging has become a way for me to fuel my desire to write.  I want to give back to my librarian colleagues because I’ve learned so much from my own Personal Learning Network  in the past couple of years.  The world feels so much smaller now as I use the Web and its tools to re-invent myself for today’s (and tomorrow’s) libraries and children.

Why Buchlady?

So many domain names with “book” had already been taken by fellow librarians and bibliophiles, so “buch” (book in German) is a nod to my German heritage.

I liked your pairing fiction with nonfiction, and the examples you’ve used. A great way to teach content but also a way to provide enrichment.

Great looking blog! Great way to “re-invent” by going 2.0. I can’t believe that you would need any re-inventing but yet be one to help those that are leery or overwhelmed. I’m putting you on my reader. Best to you.

    Hi buchlady!

I’m another elementary school librarian, and I just wanted to say thank you for additional sites that are good to use for images. We have to stick up for all those copyrights, to be true to the library roots!

Thanks for the fun posts. Do you use blogs or wikis with students at all? I set up a wiki to handle the sites I have students use–and I would welcome feedback. You can see it at TTSP Media Wiki for Studetnts. I’m doing my teacher challenge posts at Book Frontiers.

Hello Book Lady, I enjoyed the Winding Down post. Just realized that I have not shared your blog with our librarian. Promised myself I would do that on Tuesday after the Memorial Day holiday. Wishing you a smooth closing and a relaxing summer break.

    Hi Booklady!
I think I recognize you from OK2Ask sessions, but want to belatedly thank you for all the good things you share from TeachersFirst. If you want to send me your snail mail address, we have something for you. You can send me a message at the email supplied with this comment. Include you mailing address…and a Tshirt size (unisex M, L, or XL).

Hope you will tell folks about TeachersFirst 3.0 as you get to know it.

    Happy summer!
